Every day we’re constantly walking a tightrope between fear and courage. Success experts who have been there and done it are virtually unanimous on this point; you can’t control your emotions but you can control your direction.
The Wallenda family (masters of the tightrope for generations) reveals two of their secrets for maintaining balance; keep your eye on a fixed point at the end of the wire and keep moving forward. Most people wait until they FEEL courageous before they act wtih courage, but successful people know that the way to courage is FORWARD to the fixed point you’ve chosen to focus on.
Is the goal you’ve chosen compelling enough to keep you moving forward to a life of abundance?
Please share your story… to help empower your fellow blog readers:)

Hi Ylva ~ From my own personal experience, I have found that waiting until I “feel” something, such as courage, will keep me from ever taking the action I need to in order to move ahead toward a goal, etc. Like the Wallenda family, it’s best to have laser focus on your bigger picture (goal) and not lose sight of it…look ahead and not down
I appreciation you sharing! Christine

Moving forward is the hardest step and also the easiest, because for me it is scarier for me to stay put then move forward. I get anxious by standing still, so I like to move forward in order to achieve my goals.
My dad used to tell me, keep your eye on the ball. I relate to the point you refer to. It taught me to keep my eye on a single point and then move ahead. I have used this philosophy all my life. Thanks for the article.

Hi Ylva,
Actually I am a believer that you can control your emotions. I agree with having focus and moving forward to get where you want to go in life. But emotions are very important to work with. I have learned this through personal experience that emotions can be controlled by understanding where they come from and by asking questions when you have something come up that bothers you: “Is this really important?” and so on. Emotions are a guide to choices and decisions I make.Great topic for discussion! Welcome to TSA!

You statement: “successful people know that the way to courage is FORWARD to the fixed point you’ve chosen to focus on.” is a fantastic point! It is so true, and I will be making this point with some other people that I know.
Hi Ylva. I’m glad to come to your site. I’m also glad to get to know you through TSA.
I’m moving forward on a dream I’ve had for a long time – to publish and sell my own music creations. My first book is almost ready to go, and the second is in beta testing mode. I’m so excited that I’ve finally gotten around to pursuing my dream.
Wishing you a song in your heart,

Hi Ylva, keeping your eye on the goal could be so important. Having a coach can help people decide things that seem so small but can determine success or total failure. Having to pick up the pieces and start a game plan all over again could be costly and take so much of your time. People can find courage when they find one simple answer such as choosing a business or product to market. Which one to choose. Knowing what point to focus on and moving forward requires researching and getting great coaching. Thanks for what you give to the industry Yiva!

Hi Ylva:
One of my favourite books is called “If you want to walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat.” We definitely have to be proactive in moving forward in courage.

Ylva,
Fantastic presentation and subject line! In 1928, they debuted at the Madison Square Garden. The act performed without a net (it had been lost in transit) and the crowd gave them a standing ovation. Now, that is courage! It was never planned.
I agree, we must not take any risked in our day. If you want that Home Business to be successful, as you determine. Listen to Ylva, and make a plan of action. Set, your goals prior to starting, your business. Get guidance, form like-minded people, who truly care about you!
Building lasting relationships, on the way to your success. Will strengthen bonds, unbreakable with new supporters. Keep your eyes forward, and focus on that one object, your why? Create a why, and write it down, to keep you motivated, now and in the future.
Let your why, be something that will keep you motivated, even when you are faced, with great challenges.
Ylva, you are a great motivator, and coach. I look forward, to another fantastic presentation.

When my husband was teaching me to drive a couple of years ago, he said the same thing… If you want to stay on the road, keep your eye on the road some distance away. Don’t get sidetracked by what’s going on in the fields on either side, and don’t be intent on the road directly in front of the car.
My mentor says, “Your WHY should make you cry!” Mine does… and it is that intensity that keeps me going through the rough times.

“You WHY should make you cry!” LOVE that! Thanks Willena.
Courage is very important as well as taking action. I remember my mother-in-law always telling me… feelings / emotions are neither right nor wrong. But direction or vision should always we clear without it most likely your actions will go other ways.
With regards to courage… it’s pretty much the same as parenting… nobody is a master, nobody is really ready… you just have to face it head on!

Precisely! Feelings can’t be wrong, but how we react to them can really determine our direction in life. And yes, lol, unfortunately courage cannot exist without fear. So we do, indeed, have to simply face it head on. Thank you!
I agree that the first step toward courage is picking out that goal and taking the first step. I would not be on this blog, reading all these great comments, and connecting with so many other talented business people if I had never taken the first step to learn more about entrepreneurship, blogging, and social media. I’ve had quite a few failed attempts, but each one makes me more courageous and brings me closer to my goals.

I really believe that there are no such things as “failures” only “learning & growth opportunities.” While it’s sometimes hard to convince my EGO of this truth, lol, as long as I can keep it in my heart things are good
Thank you so much Steve!
“We make changes when the fear of not changing overpowers the fear of changing.” This quote is from a presentation my one of my Business Coach colleagues, and it came to mind after reading Yiva’s article and the comments because, to me, FEAR is the other side of COURAGE.
So if we can rid ourselves of Fear [False-Expectations-Appearing-Real], then we will have the courage/ability to accomplish whatever we dream about.

That’s a great quote, Shari, thanks for sharing it. The connection between fear and courage, and our comfort zones, is a fascinating one. I feel so blessed to have so many wonderful discussions here on the subject. Thanks again!
